National Arson Awareness Week

Sunday, May 7, 2017 May 7-13, 2017 is National Arson Awareness Week. This year’s theme is “Arson Prevention at Houses of Worship.” Sadly, varying dynamics such as opposing philosophical agendas or attempts to harm the communities within which such structures reside make houses of worship a common target for arsonists.

A free webinar, Improving Fire Safety and Arson Awareness for Faith-based and Community Organizations, will be Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 2-3pm Eastern sponsored by the U.S. Fire Administration, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, and the U.S. Department of Justice.

The webinar will highlight resources and practices that can help community organizations and houses of worship improve fire safety and arson awareness collaborations with the first responder community. You will learn about:
•Common motives associated with arson
•Strategies you can use to prevent arson and fire-related damage
•Resources from federal, state and local governments that contribute to positive relationships between the faith community and first responders
